The Cup Point setscrews aggressively bite into the Aluminum creating an extremely rigid stop. The threaded bar and locknut design of typical stops is overkill. It's an old design and was never meant to be user friendly. Our Smart Stops have been used in shops for years with no performance issues.
Easy. All you have to do is use a larger diameter of barstock you have laying around the shop and turn one end down to .500". Insert the end into the Smart Stop body and you're now ready to stop that part. The supplied dowel that ships with the Smart Stop can also be turned down to accomodate a smaller part.
